Project overview

Project Overview

ElevPh Builders Corporation developed a custom freight elevator for a client requiring a large usable cabin for transferring materials between two levels.

The elevator was designed with an internal cabin dimension of approximately:

3.0 m × 2.0 m

Because material handling and forklift movement around the loading area were important to the client's operation, the entrance design required careful consideration.

A conventional swing door was not preferred because its opening path could interfere with movement around the elevator entrance. An accordion-type door was also not preferred because the folded panels would occupy additional space when opened.

ElevPh therefore developed a vertical slide-up door configuration to provide a more practical and space-efficient entrance arrangement.

Operating requirement

The Client Requirement

The client required a freight elevator with a significantly larger cabin than a typical small goods lift.

The approximately 3.0 m × 2.0 m internal cabin was intended to provide substantial usable space for moving materials between the two levels.

The entrance arrangement was particularly important because of the client's material-handling operation and forklift movement around the elevator area.

The client did not want a conventional swing door because the door leaf could interfere with working space around the entrance. An accordion-type door was also not preferred because its folded panels would consume part of the available opening area.

The challenge was therefore to provide a large freight elevator while maintaining a practical and unobstructed loading entrance.

Project constraints

The Design Challenge

The configuration was developed from the client's verified cabin, access and material-handling requirements.

01

Large Cabin Requirement

The elevator required an approximately 3.0 m × 2.0 m internal cabin, requiring a custom configuration suited to the client's material-handling requirements.

02

Limited Entrance Obstruction

The door system needed to avoid interfering with forklift and material movement around the loading area.

03

Door Configuration

A swing door would require additional operating clearance around the entrance, while an accordion door would occupy space when folded. A different door arrangement was therefore required.

Project-specific entrance design

The Solution: Vertical Slide-Up Door

ElevPh developed a vertical slide-up door configuration for the freight elevator.

Instead of swinging into the working area or folding along the side of the entrance, the door moves vertically, helping preserve the usable space around the loading opening.

The solution was selected according to this project's specific operating and space requirements.

Civil works

Pit Excavation & Civil Preparation

Unlike projects where a complete elevator pit already exists, this installation required civil preparation before elevator installation could proceed.

ElevPh carried out the required elevator pit excavation, followed by pit preparation and finishing works.

The completed civil works provided the prepared foundation and installation area required before the elevator components could be installed.

Project execution

Elevator Installation

After completion of the pit and civil preparation, installation of the freight elevator system began.

The work progressed through structural, mechanical and electrical installation until the custom freight elevator was assembled into its final configuration.

Integrated project scope

  • Fabricated structural components
  • Elevator guide system
  • Lifting components
  • Large freight cabin
  • Slide-up door system
  • Electrical and control components
  • Landing controls
  • Safety-related components
  • Final alignment and adjustment

Project outcome

Completed Result

The completed project delivered a custom 2-stop freight elevator with an approximately 3.0 m × 2.0 m internal cabin and vertical slide-up door configuration.

The design addressed the client's two major requirements: large usable cabin space and efficient entrance access for the surrounding material-handling operation.

Rather than forcing a standard door configuration into the application, the elevator was developed around the actual operating conditions of the site.

The completed project demonstrates ElevPh Builders Corporation's capability to execute custom freight-elevator projects involving civil preparation, custom fabrication, large-cabin requirements, specialized entrance arrangements, mechanical installation, electrical/control integration and project completion.
